Internet Privacy
Is my privacy protected if I visit your website on the Internet?
Yes. If you apply online for our products, the personal information you provide to us is encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. SSL is a commonly used protocol for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet. SSL uses a program layer located between the Internet's Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Transport Control Protocol (TCP) layers. SSL is included as part of both the Microsoft and Netscape browsers and most Web server products. Older browsers may not accommodate SSL sessions, so you should ensure that the browser you are using includes the SSL technology.
Also, for each visitor to our web page, our web server automatically recognizes only:
- Your Internet Service Provider (for example, America Online), but not your specific e-mail address. For instance, if your e-mail address is 'johnsmith@aol.com,' only the aol.com part of the address is recognized.
- Aggregate information on which pages consumers visit, but no information on pages visited by any individual consumer. The aggregate information we collect (for instance, how many 'hits' on a particular Web page) is used for internal review to improve the content of our Web page.
Here's what we do with information volunteered by you, such as survey information or information requests:
E-mail Address. If you supply us with your e-mail address online when requesting information about a specific product or service, you will only receive the information that you requested when you provide us your e-mail address.
Personal Information. If you supply us with personal data (such as e-mail address, social security number, etc.), we may use this data to provide you with marketing information on products, services, or special promotions we believe will be of interest to you. However, if you wish to be excluded from receiving such information by e-mail, we'll give you an opportunity to tell us this online. We will respect your wishes not to receive such e-mail marketing.
Use of Cookies. For login areas of the Matsco site, cookies are used to streamline the login process while also improving security. A cookie is used to identify that a device (your computer) has successfully completed the authentication process in the past, and is then considered registered. The cookie only identifies the specific computer via a randomly generated number, and does not contain any personal information such as your name or account number. Matsco still requires your username and password to be entered to complete the login process.
Postal Mail Address/Telephone Number. If you supply us with your postal address or telephone number online in order to obtain information from us for a specific purpose, we will not use it for general marketing purposes.
Information About You
How do you control information about my accounts?
Our employees are informed of their responsibility to protect the confidentiality of client information and may be subject to discipline for violating this policy. Only employees actively engaged in the discharge of assigned duties involving client information are authorized to access that information.
Why do you have information about me?
We collect and use information about individual clients:
- To open and administer your accounts and provide superior service.
- To help us protect you and us from financial loss.
In some cases, laws governing financial institutions require us to gather information. For example, federal regulations require that we obtain a Social Security number or taxpayer identification number for many types of accounts.
We use information about you in accordance with the principles set out in this privacy policy.
What can I do if I discover that information you have is inaccurate or needs to be updated?
It's in your interest and ours to have accurate, current, and complete information concerning you and your accounts. If you believe that we have erroneous information, please contact our Client Services group at 800-326-0376. We want to promptly correct any inaccuracies.
Credit Report Information About You
Do you use information from consumer credit reports provided by outside agencies?
Yes. It is standard banking industry practice to obtain information from credit reporting agencies. When we do, you are protected both by our own Privacy Policy for Business Principals and by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a federal law.
We will notify you if we decline any application made by you and whether we used a consumer credit report during the processing of your application.
We may also use information from credit reports, if we elect, to prescreen prospects for lending products and services. Federal law requires us to notify you whenever such reports have been used to solicit your business. You may request that credit reporting agencies remove your name from lists supplied to us for transactions you do not initiate.
What exactly is on these credit reports?
Your credit report includes personal and financial information such as your account balances and your payment history for credit cards, mortgages or other consumer loans. If you don't make payments on time or miss a payment, your credit report may show that, even if you catch up on your payments later. Late payments and other 'negative' information can remain on your credit report for up to 7 years, while bankruptcies may remain for up to 10 years.
By law, an individual's credit report can be given to insurance companies, banks, and others when needed to transact business with you. There are many uses for credit reports. For instance, those who make loans may refer to the reports to verify the credit-worthiness of borrowers.
FCRA requires each of the major nationwide consumer reporting companies to provide you with a free copy of your credit reports, at your request, once every 12 months.
To order your free annual credit report from one or all of the national consumer reporting companies, visit www.annualcreditreport.com, call toll free 877-322-8228, or complete the Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. You can print the Request Form from www.annualcreditreport.com or www.ftc.gov/credit. Do not contact the three nationwide consumer reporting companies individually to obtain free annual credit reports.
You are also entitled to a free credit report if a company takes adverse action against you, such as denying your application for credit, insurance, or employment, and you request your report within 60 days of receiving notice of the action. You can also request one free report a year if you're unemployed and plan to look for a job within 60 days; you are on welfare; or your report is inaccurate because of fraud. Otherwise, a consumer reporting company may charge you up to $10.00 for another copy of your report within a 12-month period.
To buy a copy of your report, contact:
Equifax: 800-685-1111
Experian: 888-397-3742
TransUnion: 800-888-4213
Do you provide credit information to credit reporting agencies?
In accordance with standard banking industry practice, we may share certain information about our clients with credit reporting agencies, so creditors can verify the existence, history and condition of clients' accounts.
On occasion, an entity other than a credit-reporting agency – such as another financial institution or a business – may ask us for credit information about an individual or business client. For example, you may be applying for a loan at another bank or establishing a credit relationship with a business. In such instances, we will not provide information about you unless you have given your prior authorization.
Use of Information About You
Do you give information about clients to the government?
We disclose client information to the government:
- When we are required to do so by laws and regulations;
- When we are served with a subpoena, court, or administrative order;
- When a client authorizes us to do so; or
- If we believe a crime may have been, or may be, committed involving your account.
What happens if I'm involved in a lawsuit and bank records are subpoenaed?
If you are involved in a lawsuit, we will disclose information about you or your accounts to third party litigants when we are required to do so by applicable law or court order.
Do you give information about me to any other third parties?
Our policy is not to share specific client information with affiliated and non-affiliated third parties for any purpose not connected with financial products and services, unless otherwise permitted by law.
Like most banks, we contract with outside companies to provide support services such as data processing, check printing, insurance products, and statement mailings. These vendors are required to treat such client information confidentially and use the information only for the specific bank purpose stated. Vendors are prohibited from reusing or selling client information.
This document applies to principals of businesses who have, or have had, a customer relationship with or have made an inquiry or application to Matsco.
The policies and practices described in this disclosure are subject to change, but we will communicate any significant changes to you as required by applicable law. The policies and practices described in this disclosure replace all previous notices or statements regarding this subject.
